We’re starting something new just for you from many of the comments we’ve heard at our dream booths this summer. On Thursday night’s you are invited to join us at Panera Bread on Blvd of the Allies in Oakland to gather around and glean from dreams and learn how to interpret them on your own. These will be informal. Feel free to bring your dreams or just listen to others. We will start these meetings on Thursday August 16th at 7:00 pm. Please contact me if you plan on coming so I can have enough handouts for everyone.
The dream world has had a wide reaching impact on society. Dreams have an affect on all people groups regardless of age, sex, creed, race, spiritual preference, etc. Here’s a great example of how one dream changed the course of the Catholic Church.
If you are not familiar with Catholic terminology, history shows that there have arisen small sects of Catholicism who attribute themselves to being wholly Catholic while also following the specific teachings of an individual leader. This leader usually teaches specific life practices that are not wholly endorsed by the Catholic church. For example, self-flagellation was never accepted as a normal form of Catholic lifestyle but many leaders taught their followers to do it. These sects are properly called “Orders.”
Many leaders have come and gone throughout the ages, few truly stand the test of time and become “sainted.” One of those saints, Fracis of Assissi, was originally ignored. That is, until Mr. Pope had a dream.
Francis of Assissi was not widely accepted because he had taken a vow of poverty and asked his followers to do the same. This was much to the dismay of his affluent family. His father tried to reason with him and even tried to commit him as insane. Francis felt he needed to disown his family to be fully adopted by his
message of simplicity, poverty and love. Although the same would be true for today, this was revolutionary for his day.
“It was after his meeting with him that the Pope saw [in a dream] the great church of St. John Lateran collapsing on itself. Just as it was about to fall, a small man appeared dressed in the clothes of a peasant. He took the weight of the falling church, held it up with his shoulder, and then straightened it back again.”
The Pope dreaming of the Basilica of St. John Lateran is very important because the church is “the official ecclesiastical seat of the Bishop of Rome, who is the Pope.” In other words, the Pope had a dream of his workplace. The building collapsing is obviously not a good sign - but then the hero of the dream steps to the plate and raises the roof on his shoulders. This sign spoke very clearly to the pontiff and he immediately sanctioned the order of the Franciscans.
Even though dream interpretation has a realm of flow that stems from a supernatural source, there are certain mechanics of the art that will help entry level interpretors to identify the important symbols. This process is called the Dream Inspection. When one inspects a dream, they are basically dissecting the symbols, actions, adjectives, revelation points, etc. There is actually a chart which will soon be able to be purchased from this website to help the process of interpretation at home.
One of the points that will need to determined is if there is a conflict in the dream. If so, one should identify what kind of conflict it is and chart it’s progression. Not every dream has a conflict, but many times the conflict can be hidden below the surface. One form of conflict is called Protagonist versus Personal Ideology.
Many people find their dreams in this category. The dreamer is often awakened stunned by their actions in their dream. Although the dream might trouble the dreamer, this dream is not something to be troubled by. These dreams are revealing something that is in the heart of the dreamer. When dreamers share about these experiences, their descriptions almost always contain some of the phrases listed below:
Some examples of these types of dreams are:
The point of these dreams is to speak to the character or ideology that the dreamer may have. A dream in which one is having sex with someone they “shouldn’t be having sex with” does not mean they should go out and have sex with that person!Instead, it means that there could be a personal ideology of intimacy or vulnerability with that person. A dream where one is chasing another with a weapon in order to kill them does not endorse violent actions! It is speaking about one’s heart toward another and warning them to calm their heart because they are really hurting another person.
Every Monday we will be informing you of an important historical dream that drastically has changed society. Most people are unaware of the affect the dream world has had on society. We believe that dreams are often overlooked in Western Cultures because of the dream’s inherit supernatural lineage. For whatever reason, Western Culture refuses to embrace anything supernatural. The point of these articles is to display in important role that dreams have had, even on Western Culture!

This week we will look at Elias Howe, the inventor of the first practical sewing machine.
Although most people give him credit for inventing the original sewing machine, Howe actually modified and patented the largest development of its day. This development made the machine much more efficient and quiet which would help spearhead the industrial revolution into new heights.
But before Howe actually patented his machine, he was a struggling engineer who did not have a financial leg to stand on. The major problem in the development of Howe’s sewing machine was the location of the eye of the needle. The inventor was rapidly running out of money and ideas when one night he had a peculiar dream.
He was being led to his execution for failing to design a sewing machine for the king of a strange country. He was surrounded by guards, all of whom carried spears that were pierced near the head.
Realizing instantly that this was the solution to his problem, Howe woke up and rushed straight to his workshop. By nine o’clock that morning, the design of the first sewing machine was well on the way to completion…

The following dream features two classic symbols from most night visions. The first symbol is the house. Generally, people have at least two dream worlds. One of those worlds look exactly like the real world. The other world has its similarities but is usually defined by its differences. For example, one might dream of their house but it might have a bedroom on the second floor when their house does not even have a second floor!
The second symbol is the “revealing” process. This can pan out different ways, but it most often manifests itself as someone walking around in their undergarments trying to do “things as usual.” The revealing interpreted can pan out differently depending on context, but it usually finds itself rooted in emotional transparency. Let’s face a simple fact here: our mind is aware that there are some people who cannot be trusted. Even though we long for relationship with people, we must first listen to the warnings and be cautious before releasing our innermost secrets.
I dreamt that the front of our house fell off, kind of like in the earthquake movies where you can see all of the wiring and stuff in the walls. There wasn’t any earthquake in my dream. Then as I was gathering up my belongings the back of the house fell off. I don’t remember much about the dream except that I was trying to gather up my belongings so people couldn’t take them.
In this dream you have two revealings of personal items within a once hidden personal location. Since in the dream you were unhappy with the conclusion of your private belongings now being open to the public the dream probably means that you need to not be so open or emotionally transparent with the people whom you spend your time with. There might be coming an opportunity for you to spill some personal secrets and I believe this dream is advising you against it. Maintain life as normal around your family, friends, neighbors and enemies.
